| (Amid applauses, Matt comes onto the stage in a cream jacket over black clothes and shoes. He beams at the audience and shakes hands with George Lopez.)
Kelly: Hi, Matt! (shakes hands with him and kisses him on the cheek) Matt: Hi. How do you do? (He sits on George's right.) Kelly: You look like a rock star. (She sits on George's left.) Matt: Do I look like a rock star? Kelly: You really do. (sits on George's left) I mean I think you could be a rock star right now. Do you sing? Matt: I like that. I... George: I think you could have been a detective from the 70's. Matt Dallas. Kelly: Mmm. Yeah. Matt: I get that a lot. I get detective from the 70's, porn star, soap opera, I get that a lot. Kelly: Yeah, that's good. So you're originally from Phoenix, Arizona? Matt: I'm from Phoenix, born and raised. Yeah, I moved to LA after I graduated from high school. Kelly: Did you know you wanted to be an actor when you moved there? |
Matt: Actually, I knew when I moved to LA that I wanted to be an actor, but I found out that we have something in common. I hope my sources are right, but I found out that one of your first plays was The Ugly Duckling.
Kelly: Yeah. Matt: Actually, it was the first play that I've ever done in my life. That made me wanted to be an actor. Kelly: Oh, my gosh. (cries and wipes eyes) You know, Matt, a talk show could be in your future. (Matt chuckles) George (to Kelly): Do you remember any of your dialogues from The Ugly Duckling? Kelly: No, I just remembered that I was the Ugly Duckling. (audience laughs) Thank you, George. (to Matt) You know, it's very interesting that a lot of people living in the middle of the country, not New York not L.A., wonder how do somebody outside New York and L.A. become an actor? Matt: You know, there's not a lot of theater. There's not a lot of huge film community in Phoenix. So I did a lot of theater growing up. Ever since I was 12, I started acting, did play after play after play. Every time I decided I was going to try and play sports or do something else, I was in another play. So I just knew from when I was a kid that I was going to be an actor. Kelly: It's very funny, you know, that Gil Young, who directed the pilot episode of Kyle XY, was the director of Hope and Faith and way before the show was picked up, he said, "I had shot this pilot. Tell me what you we think of it." We were all memorized by you. We thought you were so terrific. And I especially loved the no belly button-thing. It spoke to me. Matt: Well, fortunately, this year we find out why Kyle doesn't have a belly button. So hopefully, we can put all that to rest. So I don't have to keep showing my belly button to everybody. (audience chuckles) |
George: In Los Angeles, there's a huge billboard by Warner Brothers of you with your shirt lifted with no belly button. Now I'm 46 and I have a belly button and a belly. Every time I would drive by there, I have to hold it in. I couldn't get to the sign before I go aahhed. (Matt and audience laugh)
Kelly: Right. It is spot attack, right? Matt: Let's just say that they just have really good Photoshop workers at ABC Family. They gave me really nice 6-packs. (looks at his stomach) Kelly: This is your second season. You must be very excited to be on the show and go back to work. How will this season sorta pan out for us? Will we get a little bit more information? Matt: Actually, in tonight's premiere, they kinda answer all the questions that are left over from last season. We really move on to answer a whole new set of questions. So they really don't let us linger too long, which is nice. We will see him explore all his other abilities and what they're saying is the making of a superhero. George: You don't have to bend a diner with a girl friend trying a 3-point park, do you? Matt: No. Kelly: We got a great idea for a series finale. We'll talk to you about it in about 8 years. Anyway, we do have a clip. You discovered how you were created, is that right? Matt: Yes. Kelly: All right, let's take a look at Kyle XY, the premier of the second season. |
(Clip starts: Adam and Kyle are in Adam's study.)
Adam: I worked years in developing an artificial womb. See? (shows diagram of chamber) Finally, I designed a chamber that will work and I invented a fluid that will provide oxygen and nutrients to the embryo inside. So there's no need for a natural mother and obviously no umbilical cord. As a result, the child will not have a belly button. Kyle: You're saying I was gestated inside one of those tanks at Zzyzx? Adam (nods): In a carefully monitored chamber. Kyle: So you created me? Adam: Yes. (end of clip) (audience clap) George: Do you imagine being unplanned is one, but gestated? Kelly: Yeah. Like a brine shrimp. Like a sea monster if you will. That guy is your mother? Matt: Yeah, mother, or father or creator. Whatever you want to call it. Kelly: That's incredible! George: Good luck. (audience claps) Good luck, Matt. Kyle XY tonight on ABC Family at 8 PM. Matt: Thanks a lot. (shakes hands with George) (Matt vaults out of his chair to stand. Kelly stands up and he hugs her.) |
